Steal A Pet And Ride It Speed Training: How to Train Speed and What It Unlocks
Speed training in Steal A Pet And Ride It explained: train on the treadmill, meet cage and area Speed requirements, escape bosses, and train faster with upgrades, trails, rings and rebirth.
Speed training is how you turn Steal A Pet And Ride It from a walking simulator into a heist game: stand on the treadmill at your base, watch your Speed stat climb, and spend that Speed on outrunning waking bosses, stealing better cages and reaching further map areas. Here's how training works, what Speed actually unlocks, and how to make every session count for more.
Quick answer
Stand on the treadmill at your base to gain Speed. Higher Speed lets you escape with stolen cages before the chasing boss catches you, meet the Speed requirements on better cages, and reach further map areas.
- Riding a pet is a separate boost: each pet has its own RUN FASTER multiplier that makes you move faster while mounted.
- Cages and areas that list a Speed requirement show it in the same numbers as your on-screen Speed, so you can compare before committing to a steal.
How to train Speed
Speed comes from the treadmill at your base — the game's own How to Play lists "Train on the treadmill to gain Speed." Step on it and stay there: your Speed value climbs while you train.
Three things worth knowing about training:
- Speed is your stat, not your pet's. Treadmill training raises the player's Speed. Pets affect your movement in a different way, covered below.
- Gains depend on your treadmill tier. How much Speed each training tick gives varies with your treadmill's level, which is why upgrades matter — one player's per-training gain jumped immediately after buying the level-2 treadmill upgrade.
- The numbers scale up fast. An early-game session can reach 5,000 Speed, and further treadmill upgrades put milestones like 25,000 and 100,000 within reach.
You train just by standing on the treadmill, and the cash your barn pets earn while you do helps pay for these upgrades — though some training boosts, such as talisman rings, are bought with diamonds instead.
What Speed actually does
Speed gates the two things that decide what you can steal:
1. A clean escape. Stealing means picking up a cage from a sleeping boss and running it home before the boss catches you — get caught and the cage is lost. The run home is a Speed check: once your Speed is high enough, chasing bosses simply can't catch you, and that's what makes better cages stealable at all.
2. Requirements on cages and areas. Cages and map areas display Speed requirements or recommendations — a hive cage that needs 4,000 Speed, a next map area listed at 730 while the player sat at 434. Because your own Speed shows on screen in the same terms, treat each number as a target: compare, then decide. The biomes across both worlds follow this pattern the deeper you push.
Do you need the exact requirement?
Treat printed numbers as recommendations rather than hard walls. One player escaped a cage recommended at 730 Speed while carrying only 483, and called the timing "really tight" — it worked because that run went cleanly, not because the number is generally negotiable. If you attempt something above your Speed, expect a narrow window and a lost cage when it goes wrong. Also be aware that not every cage spawn shows a requirement at all; for those, compare with nearby cages that do show numbers and accept some trial and error.
Riding pets makes you faster still
Training raises the stat; riding raises how fast you actually move. Pet cards show a RUN FASTER multiplier — values like 1.25x, 1.4x and 1.45x appear on pets — next to a RIDE button, and each pet's multiplier is its own. Before any steal, mount the pet with the highest RUN FASTER value you own; see how to ride pets for the mounting controls.
Four ways to train faster
Standing on the treadmill is only the base rate. Four visible systems raise it:
Tips
Upgrade the treadmill
The game's own tip is to upgrade your treadmill and barn. How much Speed each training tick gives depends on your treadmill's level, so an upgrade pays off on every future session.
Buy a trail
Trails from the trail shop multiply treadmill training — one player's blue trail made the treadmill two and a half times faster.
Equip a training ring
Talisman rings bought with diamonds make training faster; one is described as making training 25% faster, and one player's speed-per-second rose to 42 after buying one.
Rebirth
After rebirthing, one player found the treadmill running twice as fast. The long-term boost is big, but rebirth has one immediate cost — see the next section.
Exact costs, tiers and percentages change as you climb, so treat the figures above as examples of what each system does rather than a fixed schedule.
Before you rebirth: Speed resets to zero
The game pitches rebirth as "huge boosts" that keep all your pets, but it resets your trained Speed back to zero — players put it as "It resets my speed, lol" and "everything goes back to zero." That's the reset-for-boosts rhythm the game describes: train and steal, rebirth for the boosts while keeping your pets, then climb again. Whether the reset is worth it right now is a timing call of its own — the rebirth guide covers it.

Problems and fixes
The boss catches me and I lose the cage
Your Speed is under the cage's requirement, or you ran home on foot instead of riding.
Suggested responseTrain until you clear the cage's listed Speed, then start the run on your pet with the highest RUN FASTER multiplier.
I can't tell if I'm fast enough for a cage
Some cage spawns don't display a Speed requirement.
Suggested responseCompare the spawn with similar cages that do show numbers, and treat unclear steals as trial and error — attempt them only when you're happy to lose the run.
Training is too slow for the next area's requirement
Later cages and areas list far higher Speed numbers, and a base-rate treadmill can't keep up.
Suggested responseStack the training boosts: upgrade the treadmill, add a trail, equip a training ring, and rebirth once you're ready to trade your current Speed for the boosts it grants.
Putting it together
- Train on the treadmill until your Speed clears the requirement of the cage or area you want.
- Mount the pet with the best RUN FASTER multiplier before heading out.
- Grab the cage and run home — cross into your base before the boss catches you, or the cage is lost.
- Put the cash your barn pets earn into treadmill and barn upgrades so every future training session gives more.
- When progress stalls, rebirth for its boosts, accepting that your Speed starts over at zero.
