How to Ride Pets in Steal A Pet And Ride It: Mounting, Dismounting, and Speed
How to mount a pet you own in Steal A Pet And Ride It, get off again with Stop Riding, and what riding changes about your movement speed around the map.
Quick answer
Mount a pet by pressing RIDE on its reveal card when it hatches, or use the ride option in the pets panel. Press Stop Riding to get off. Riding makes you faster around the map — in one late-game example, climbing onto a placed pet added its speed to the player's own — which matters most when you are carrying a stolen cage home.
- RIDE button: shown on the pet's reveal card together with its stats when it hatches
- Ride option in the pets panel: mounts a pet already placed in your base
- Ride Best: mounts your best pet without selecting it individually
- Stop Riding: dismounts you whenever you want to get off
How to mount a pet you own
Riding works with pets you have already hatched and placed in your base — the game's own How to Play list puts it simply: "Ride your pets to become even faster."
You usually get your first chance right at the hatch. Opening a cage reveals a pet card showing its stats — a run-speed line such as "RUN FASTER 1.25x" (the exact multiplier differs per pet) alongside its train-speed and cash-earning values — together with a RIDE button. Press it and you climb onto the pet immediately.
Pets that are already settled in your base can be mounted from the pets panel, which offers a ride option plus a Stop Riding button. There is also a Ride Best option that mounts your best pet without you having to select it by hand — handy once you own several pets and just want to get moving.
How to get off a pet
Press Stop Riding. The button appears as a prompt while you are mounted, and one press sets you back down on foot. From there you can keep walking or mount something else — one player repeatedly hops off a pet and uses Ride Best to climb onto a better one.
What riding changes about your speed
Riding makes you faster, and the change is noticeable right away. A first-time player riding starter pets like a Ladybug or a worm sees their running get faster immediately after mounting, and speed readings of 1.4x and 1.45x appear while riding in one player's footage — exact multipliers vary from pet to pet.
One late-game example shows how large the difference can be: a player found that "if I place it here and ride this guy and climb on top, our speed increases by 100,000," and later describes his total speed as including his lion's — his own unmounted speed was actually very low, so the pet's contribution made up most of the total. In that example the player's own unmounted speed was the base, and that base speed is what you raise by training on the treadmill; the speed training page covers that side of the equation.
This is also why riding matters in practice. The core loop sends you out to steal cages from sleeping bosses and run them home, and mounted players carry those stolen cages back faster — "Now we're stealing using the ladybug" — so a good mount shortens the riskiest stretch of every heist, the run home with the boss behind you.
